Imagine being a teenager who needs their parent’s assistance to shower or being in a wheelchair that can’t pass through a narrow bathroom door in their family home. While public bathroom facilities are often equipped with handicap accessible features, many homes in the Kansas City area are not entirely functional for those with physical disabilities.

Do you know a child who needs an accessible bathroom?

It’s simple to nominate them! Visit the nomination page and the rules page to get started. The deadline for applications is Oct. 31, 2016.

The Big Splash Custom Bath Giveaway has made a real difference in the lives of the recipients. Take last year’s winner, 12-year-old Abby Verjosta, for instance. Abby suffers from a rare neurological disorder that makes it impossible for her to bath herself. This took a physical toll on Abby’s mother, Teresa, who injured herself while lifting her daughter out of the bath. Their cramped bathroom only exacerbated an already frustrating situation.

After winning the Big Splash Custom Bath Giveaway, however, the Verjostas have a brand new space featuring direct access from Abby’s room and the hallway, a lowered vanity, a luxurious bathtub and a lift to get Abby in and out of her bathtub.

“I don’t know what we would have done if we hadn’t have gotten the new bathroom,” Abby’s mother Teresa said. “Things are so much better now.”
