Our own Chris Peterson was recently named the president of the Kansas City chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). Chris has been an active member of KC NARI for over 20 years. He holds several certifications through NARI including primaryCertified Remodeler (MCR) and Certified Lead Carpenter (CLC). He’s sat on their Board of Directors since 2014 and is excited to take the reins as president. Chris has also received several awards through NARI including the Plumb, Square, & Level Award in 2007 and the President’s Choice Award in 2016.

The Importance of NARI

Chris is passionate about his work at NARI and what they represent in the industry. The remodeling industry often has a bad reputation of companies or individuals not completing a job, going over schedule or having poor craftsmanship. NARI takes on that stigma. Its members are committed to integrity, high standards, professional education and market recognition.

Potential members of NARI must be in business at least a year and go through a detailed screening process performed by their Ethics & By-Laws Committee.  NARI’s goal is to provide a sense of security to potential clients by introducing them to companies who are experienced, respected and trustworthy.

A Career in the Industry

Chris has been in the trade and construction industry for 28 years. He attended Vo-Tech School where he graduated in 1993. Following graduation, he worked in trades and new construction. After his stint in new construction, he joined the Schloegel team and hasn’t looked back. Chris started as a carpenter in 1996 and then moved into the Lead Carpenter role. He moved his way up into Project Management and eventually became Schloegel’s Production Manager. As of January 1st, of this year, Chris became part of the ownership team. Chris’s leadership has been a vital part of Schloegel’s success.

NARI in 2018

2018 will be an exciting year to be involved with NARI. NARI has been working on a workforce development initiative over the past few years and this year it’s really starting to gain traction. A Futures Fund was recently created to raise money for the initiative as well as a Workforce Development Committee. NARI members are learning how they can incorporate this into their own businesses and Schloegel’s Apprenticeship Program is a great example! Chris kicked off Schloegel’s Apprenticeship Program last year and it continues to grow. “We want high school kids to know they don’t have to go to college to have a great career,” Chris said. “School may not be for everyone.”

“The more involved I become with NARI the more I get out of it both personally and professionally. NARI has pushed me throughout my career to be better and achieve greater things. I’ve had opportunities to build long-standing relationships with amazing individuals in the industry. Together we all work towards the same goal and strive to run ethical businesses while providing quality products or craftsmanship to clients in Kansas City.”

Along with being named KC NARI’s President Chris has also recently appeared in a couple of Kansas City Publications.  The Shawnee Dispatch featured Chris last month in in a wonderful article by Jennifer Bhargava titled “Shawnee man leads remodeling organization”.  The Kansas City Business Journal recognized Chris in People On The Move.
