  • Kansas City Contemporary Home Renovation – Wk 6

Last updated on March 4, 2024

This is week 6 of the Kansas City Contemporary Home Renovation Series. Just in case you missed it, here’s Week 1Week 2, Week 3, Week 4 and Week 5.

The home renovation is really starting to shape, and the finish line is in sight. This week, the team wraps up most of the painting, lays the tile and installs the cabinets.

Paint

PaintingNearly every surface within the home needed to be painted, and the Schloegel Painting Division was up for the job. They painted the entire project, including the walls, ceilings, and trim in the kitchen, prep kitchen, powder bathroom, family room, dining room, laundry room, office, and hallway. They also did some external painting and touch-ups.

Floor & Fireplace Tile

laundry tileThe team laid the tile in the laundry room, entryway and dining room. The laundry room has a porcelain tile, which is a great option for rooms that deal with water, like laundry rooms and bathrooms. They are easy to maintain and are stain resistant.

A beautiful polished marble tile is laid in the entryway and the perimeter around the herringbone wood floors in the dining room.

Fireplace

The team also installed a beautiful rectified porcelain tile surrounding the fireplace. The tile was mitered into the firebox opening to conceal the brick thickness.

Cabinets

For the kitchen and prep kitchen, Donna and the homeowners selected beautiful and unique cabinets by Crestwood. The cabinets are a Spalted Maple Veneer and the look is created by dying the veneers with a computerized water-soluble process and then pressed into blocks. The blocks are then sliced into real wood veneers.

Billy and his team first started installing the cabinets in the kitchen and then installed the island cabinets. The island cabinets are different than the perimeter cabinets and they match the cabinet trim. The island and trim are Crestwood Cammello in an acrylic finish. Following the kitchen, the team installed the prep kitchen cabinets.

The kitchen fridge and dishwasher and the prep kitchen fridge, freezer drawers and dishwasher will have the spalted maple veneer panels added to match the cabinetry.

The team also installed the laundry room cabinets. Donna and the homeowners selected a gray laminate cabinet which would hold up well with water in the room.

Check back in next week as we share how the homeowners selected the live edge wood for the table, range hood and the powder room countertop.
