The Kansas City chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) held its annual awards program, the REMY Awards on Thursday, January 17. We worked on so many wonderful projects in 2018 and are proud and honored to receive an award for 12 of these projects including the Best of Show Over $250,000. It’s quite a feat to have won an award every year since NARI started their awards program in 1990. This is especially so as Schloegel is the only Kansas City remodeling company to have done so.
We have shared several of these awesome projects over the last year. We will also be sharing more details for those projects we haven’t yet shared over the next few months.
Best of Show Over $250,000 & Room Addition over $250,000 – Gold & All Star
The active family in this home loved their home and neighborhood but they needed more space, particularly a room their children and friends could hang out in. A two-story addition transformed their home while giving them the extra room they needed for their lifestyle. The large addition added a single car garage, mudroom, hearth room, fifth bedroom/ dual purpose room, game room, bathroom, and outdoor living space. Beautiful stonework, built-ins, and customizations perfectly tie in the addition to the existing structure. The family now has plenty of room to relax!
Bath Remodel Under $25,000 – Gold
This young couple wanted to put some “sweat equity” into their remodel. We worked together to develop a bathroom plan which removed the oversized, awkwardly-placed tub and replaced it with an amazing walk-in primaryshower. A new linen closet off of the toilet room was created in the old shower location. Large scale white subway tiled walls with a gray hex shower pan modernized the primaryshower. A vinyl satin glass window was installed allowing for more privacy. The warm praline stained cabinetry together with the cool colors of tile and quartz created a timeless, inviting space. Read More.
Commercial Interior – Silver
In order to reduce overhead, this corporation needed to centralize its workforce as well as update the existing interior paint colors, flooring, bathrooms, work station configurations and file storage. In total, 55 employees were relocated from other buildings and real estate liquidated. Approximately 30,000 square feet of flooring were replaced with a combination of high traffic, commercial grade carpet squares, LVT and concrete refinishing. Offices were constructed where none existing with ADA compliant hardware. Outdated cubicles were replaced. Four bathrooms were updated with new paint, ADA compliant plumbing fixtures and tile was installed on the floors and walls.
Designs and Plans – Silver & All Star
The Homeowners wanted to finish a portion of their basement. She wanted a place to store her wine and spend time with friends, and He wanted a room where he could smoke cigars and play cards. We studied the client’s collection of spirits to achieve a customized piece as the focal point. Bottles line the walls. A bar area sits at the back. The game room is ideal for card games and cigars, with plenty of storage and display area. This space provides an area for two parents to socialize and/or escape without waking up the children.
Entire House Remodel $250,000 – $500,000 – Gold
This beautiful home built in 1910 was dark and dingy inside. The client wanted the main floor to return to its craftsman roots while creating a more contemporary second floor primarysuite. Blue, shaker style cabinets were paired with light gray cabinetry in the kitchen, the island was relocated and a dividing wall removed to create an open, airy, craftsman style space. A medallion which was found behind the old fireplace was removed and set in the new entryway tile and an original beam from the kitchen was used as a mantle in the new primarysuite two-sided fireplace.
Entire House Remodel $500,001 – $750,000 – Silver
This home on a bluff had a beautiful Western view. The kitchen was expanded into the laundry room creating a walk-in pantry and a larger island with an attached, raised table. The laundry with cabinetry to the ceiling and more counter space was now more efficient. The living room fireplace was updated with faux stone columns and marble surround. A guest bathroom features elegant finishes of marble and gilded fixtures. An extensive lighting plan was designed for all areas of the home. A ttimber-framed roof was added to the original deck providing extended living space, protecting the interior from sun.
Interior Remodel Over $150,000 – Silver
The client’s desire was to open up the kitchen to a large family room addition, and the dining/living room, currently separated from the kitchen. Opening these walls required relocation of mechanical and extensive engineering. Relocation of a bath and laundry created a more functional entry to the new kitchen space. A large kitchen island with ample seating and a banquette table area seamlessly expanded the kitchen into the living space of the family room. Soft white and black painted cabinetry, and patterned concrete tile were embellished with consistent accents of gold, appealing to the southern style of the client. Read More.
Kitchen Remodel $30,000 – $60,000 – Gold
The owners of this very charming Fairway home have impeccable taste and wanted the kitchen to reflect their own style, while providing a more functional space for cooking, storage and entertaining. The new configuration captured all of the design elements that the owners wanted to introduce to accentuate their style for the kitchen. The live edge wood open shelving was a great way to add a natural element to the kitchen. The new creative functional storage, seating and additional countertop space for entertaining was a welcome change. The owners often say “I can’t believe this is my house”. Read More.
Kitchen Remodel $60,001 – $100,000 – Gold
Hosting meals for large family gatherings every week and having multiple prepping areas were crucial elements of the new design. The existing layout of this kitchen with a peninsula restricted the flow of traffic through the kitchen. The cabinets did not offer functional storage and the work surface was limited beside the range. Now there is generous countertop space on each side of the gas cook top along with deep drawers for storing cookware. The upper cabinets extend to the ceiling with crown maximizing storage and also offer a location to display their collection of laboratory glass. Read More.
Kitchen Remodel $100,001 – $150,000 – Gold & All Star
This builder grade kitchen had seen better days! The broken cabinets and angled island across from the pantry that created traffic issues had to go. Our homeowner also wanted a powder bath on the main floor to keep guests from using their primarybathroom. The new kitchen utilizes clean modern finishes with an industrial flair that bring this kitchen into the 21st century. The new island creates better flow and the mudroom and pantry areas were re-worked to incorporate the coveted powder bath. It’s safe to say this space will be enjoyed by family and friends for years to come!
Residential Exterior $50,001 – $100,000 – Gold
The homeowners of this charming bungalow reached out to us for several remodeling projects, one of which was to update their home’s exterior. It had seen better days. The roof was in disrepair and much of the wood around the home had rotted. We put together a plan to address all the exterior issues and help restore this 1920’s home to its former glory. With a new roof, cedar front and back porch, corbels and fresh paint the home looks like a younger version of itself.
Room Addition $100,000 – $250,000 – Gold
The cramped kitchen in this 1940s home was too small for a family of five. The tight layout didn’t allow for multiple users and even though the addition only added about fifty square feet, it made all the difference in creating space for a mudroom and the ability to have a center island. Opening the wall between the kitchen and dining room made the space feel larger and allowed for more natural light. The addition may be small but the impact was huge! This new space will be great for gatherings and allowing the family to spend time together cooking!
