  • 5 Home Design Trends for 2018

Last updated on March 22, 2024

A new year is approaching and with it comes some exciting and fresh design trends. We caught up with our own designer, Amy Boeshaar to get her take on 5 design trends to expect in 2018. Some of the trends may take you down memory lane and others may inspire you to change up your home.

1. Blacks and whites with beiges and browns

Neutrals have been big the past few years and especially blacks and whites. White kitchens and walls are popular trends we don’t see going away but in 2018 we’re going to see browns and beiges reappearing. Carmel colors and browns make perfect accents so hopefully, you held on to a few of your brown pillows or curtains from a few years ago because now’s the time to bring them back out!

2. Warm neutrals, browns, and organics.

We’ve seen natural woods being used in everything from counters to stools and this past year and can expect to see even more next year. Live edge wood pieces, wood beams, tables, and accents are a great way to add natural warmth to your home.

3. Intense colors in jewel tones, reds, and oranges

Natural and neutral colors, not your thing? Not a problem, intense colors will also be big in 2018. You’ll be seeing brightly painted walls, pillow accents, lighting, and rugs. A bold punch of color always spices up a room. Benjamin Moore’s and Sherwin William’s 2018 color palettes are definitely reflecting some of these beautiful, bright and bold colors.

4. Geometric patterns

Geometric patterns are a fantastic design compliment to neutral colors. They add interest in dimension. Geometric patterns can easily be added to your existing décor with throw pillows, a rug or wallpaper. For those more committed to a pattern, printed tiles are another fun trend that will gain momentum in 2018. They’re perfect for a small kitchen floor, bathroom floor or backsplash.

5. Marble surfaces and metallic

The beautiful mix of marble with metallic is not going anywhere. It’s just starting to ramp up. Marble or marble look-alikes will be found in floors, counters, side tables and backsplashes. Metallics and marble are the perfect pair. Bring metallic into your home through hardware, lighting, side tables or accents.
