As we announced recently, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry’s Kansas City chapter recognized Schloegel Design Remodel last week for two amazing kitchen renovations. This Mission Hills stunner, designed by Amy and Debby, brought home the silver medal in the $100,000-$150,000 category.

Let’s take a look at how the kitchen transformed!

The existing kitchen with two L-Shaped areas of cabinetry created a closed off the space and crammed the kitchen in the back corner. The free standing island had more room around it than the back kitchen space! The tall pantry cabinets that backed up to the microwave and cooktop made the kitchen feel closed off from the dining room and created a constricting hallway back to the mud room. Two small kitchen windows didn’t let in much daylight and the narrow opening at the bottom of the stairs into the kitchen from the entry that was a very tight squeeze.
Before Kitchen Floor Plans

Before the remodel, the kitchen had two L-Shaped areas of cabinetry that created a closed off the space and crammed the kitchen in the back corner.

Before Kitchen Renovation

Designers Amy and Debby worked with Project Manager Doug and Lead Carpenter Henry to come up with a floor plan that would meet all of the clients’ wishes. By removing the tall pantry cabinetry and relocating the cooktop,  they were able to create a larger opening from the dining room into the kitchen. The large island utilized the once dead floor space and created a great work surface as well as a place for family and guests to sit. The larger windows at the existing sink location let in great light and created a nice focal point from the dining room. Half of the existing front closet also became more functional as a closet and widening the opening from the front entry into the kitchen made the space feel more inviting.

After Kitchen Renovation

The final product resulted in a beautiful open floor plan that let it a ton of natural light, creating a great space to gather with friends and family. By diligently designing cabinet by cabinet for maximum function, storage and aesthetic; incorporating under cabinet lighting, and commercial grade appliances, the team developed the kitchen space that the homeowners truly loved and will enjoy for years to come!
