Brookside homes boast tons of character, beautiful woodwork, and a quality of workmanship you’d be hard-pressed to find in homes built today. Unfortunately, while these homes have tons of charm they were built for a lifestyle of yesteryear. This particular home’s kitchen had dated linoleum, tile counters, 1950’s cabinets and an awkward layout. The homeowners knew they wanted to remodel their kitchen and looked to Schloegel to help create their vision.
A New Kitchen Design
Amy Boeshaar worked with the homeowners to re-envision the design of the kitchen, porch and powder bathroom. Moving the location of the powder room provided plenty of space to open the kitchen up. The new location also allowed for an expanded powder bathroom. Widening the cased opening between the kitchen and dining room helped create a more open floor plan.
The home’s porch was the perfect space to convert into a mudroom and moving the entrance into the kitchen help create an optimal flow in the kitchen.
The fridge, sink, stove, and microwave all found new homes that made everyday kitchen use much easier. The new layout also afforded space for an island.
The Remodeled Kitchen
The new kitchen is nearly unrecognizable. It’s bright, open and welcoming. A new window above the sink lets in plenty of natural light. Beautiful white inset cabinets are set up to the ceiling which creates ample workspace on the Cambria Dunmore quartz counters underneath. The contrasting gray island with a Cambria Waverton quartz counter provides the perfect place to have morning coffee or chat with a friend while making final dinner preparations. The glass front cabinet presents space to display fun dishes and glasses while the open cabinet offers a great location to store cookbooks. Finally, the new hardwoods tie in with the hardwoods throughout the house.
The finishes effortlessly complete the look. A ceramic subway backsplash is a nod to the home’s era and the light fixtures give the space a modern feel.
The powder room ties in effortlessly with the kitchen. Its cabinet is painted the same gray as the island and the brushed nickel hardware is carried throughout the entire space.
With a convenient, open layout and beautiful finishes, it’s easy to see how this marvelous remodeled Brookside kitchen breathed new life into the home.
