  • Kitchen and Bathroom Fixtures – Virtual Workshop Recap

Last updated on July 1, 2021

Megan Bringman did a fantastic job walking us through some of the latest in bathroom and kitchen fixtures last Thursday. She covered everything from faucet design and function to high design bathroom sinks. If you didn’t have a chance to join the workshop you can watch it here.

Kitchen

Faucets – Function

Kitchen faucets go beyond just providing water today. There are many different options to select based on your need and preferences. A pull-down or pull-out faucet eliminates the need for a separate side spray. They also have magnet docking making for ease of use. A Single handle makes turning the water on and finding the right temperature even easier. Faucets today also have features such as fast-fill technology, spot resistant finishes, multi-function spray head one touch, or even touchless.

Perhaps the latest in kitchen faucets is the smart option. Yes, you can use your voice to turn or faucet on or off using your Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Apple Home Kit. Smart faucets can also turn the water on at the desired temperature, fill a certain amount or you can customize presets.

Faucet Designs & Finishes

There are thousands of designs and finishes of kitchen faucets and one to fit every design style whether that be traditional, contemporary, or transitional. Brass, gold, chrome, mixed metal, matte black, and even ombre are among the latest in trends and most popular. We love the mixing metals trends so you don’t have to pick just one metal type.

Built-in Filtered Water Dispenser

Say goodbye to bottled water once and for all! This Elkay built-in water dispenser is a great option for a hands-free water source in your mudroom, recreation room, or even primarysuite. It’s 28” tall and 18” wide and is available in chilled or un-chilled. It also counts how many bottles of water you’ve saved!

Sink Options

Just like everything else sinks don’t just come in a few options anymore. The options are vast and fit all the décor styles. Some of the trends we see are clients choosing darker colors in a Silgranit. Silgranit is a granite composite sink that is much more durable than porcelain. But that doesn’t mean Farmhouse porcelain sinks have gone away, quite the contrary, they’re just as popular as ever! They now come in a variety of options with designs on the front. If you’re after the farmhouse look but don’t want to commit to the maintenance of a porcelain sink a stainless steel apron front sink could be for you.

Other Kitchen Fixtures

With convenience and functionality being at the forefront of kitchen design we’ve also seen the introduction of other fixtures including pot filler faucets, beverage faucets, a glass rinser, and a bar faucet.

Bathroom Fixtures

Faucet Design & Finishes

Again, the options in bathroom fixtures today seem to be limitless and faucets are no exception. They range in a plethora of styles from traditional, contemporary to transitional. You’ll find expanded options in finishes as well while chrome and brushed nickel are still popular, we’re seeing a lot more options in matte black, gold tones, and two-tone. Kohler’s ombre options are also beautiful.

Shower Faucets

The many options for showers help homeowners achieve a spa-like experience in their own homes. One great way to do this is a shower rail. It allows the head to move up and down and with the help of a diverter, water can come out of both the showerhead and hand shower.

Showerheads offer multifunction options with different water settings. There are also showerheads available with a wireless speaker and built-in lights.

Toilet Options

Yes, a toilet also has new options. Any more the standard is a comfort height commode which means it’s taller making it easier for sitting and standing. The elongated bowl is also more standard as it creates a more comfortable seat. Other new features include swirl flush technology helping keep the bowl cleaner and a skirted trap way for easier cleaning.

Bidet seats have become more popular with the great 2020 toilet paper shortage. The seats are available from a very basic bidet to one with all the bells and whistles. Can you imagine having a toilet seat sing to you while warming your rear?

Sinks

Hard to believe there are options in bathroom sinks?! The most popular option we use for our clients is an undermount sink. It makes for simple cleaning and clean lines. There are also some amazing high-design sinks out there. We often use vessel sinks in powder bathrooms as they offer a punch of design in a room with less traffic than a full bathroom.

Thanks, Megan, for sharing some of these great options and trends on kitchen and bathroom fixtures. It’s always fun to see what’s new out there and visualize them in our own homes.

Tune in for our next Virtual Workshop on Tuesday, May 26 at 4:30 PM where Gayle Jagoda will be sharing more about our process and what design remodel means.Register
