A Bathroom Remodel for Our Big Splash Recipient Brett Wilson

Remodel Includes Fully Accessible Bathroom, Widened Doors, and Much More

For the last couple of weeks, our Schloegel team has been very busy. Fresh off the 4 Big Splash Ripple Effect projects in December, we began work at the beginning of January on the complete bathroom remodel of Nick & Kristal Wilson, and their son Brett, who since birth has had spinal muscular atrophy, our 2014 Big Splash Custom Bath recipients.

This remodel included a complete gutting of their old bathroom, replacing the walls & floors, enlarging the shower area while changing it to a roll-in shower, a window replacement, and moving the sink & replacing it with a vanity that accommodates Brett’s wheelchair.

Before the remodel, the doorway to the bathroom was too narrow for Brett’s wheelchair to fit through at all, so his parents had to carry him in for all his bathroom needs. We widened the door to allow for his wheelchair, providing the privacy and independence that any 15 year old desires.

We also widened the doorway to his bedroom, and installed an automatic open/close feature on it. Since the old doorway did not have a door (his wheelchair could not fit with it on), Brett is thrilled to have some space all his own.

Our entire team is grateful to have met this amazingly strong and humble family and have this opportunity to give back to our community. We also are grateful to all of our partners & sponsors along the way, including Love Fund for Kids. See a complete list here.
