Have you driven down Ward Parkway recently, seen Schloegel’s yard sign and wondered just what they’re doing? Well, boy are you in luck! This week is the first post in a series about the Ward Parkway Renovation. You’ll be able to follow along on our blog or visit the Ward Pkwy Reno page where we’ll be sharing all the blog posts and progress photos. In addition to our updates, you’ll be able to see the renovation from the homeowner’s eyes. The homeowner, Jen is sharing her journey on Instagram.
The House
The classic style ranch home was built in 1952 and Jen purchased it late last year. Before she showed up with her moving boxes and settled in she knew she wanted to put her own personal touch on the home. The home had excellent bones and Jen wanted to keep it a traditional ranch but needed the floor plan to work for her lifestyle.
The existing kitchen had good square footage but felt slightly closed off with the peninsula separating it from the breakfast area. The house also had a formal dining room which was quite a bit of dining space that Jen didn’t need.
The existing primarysuite was large but the closet space left little to the imagination in its two small closets. The bathroom was also awkwardly laid out and cramped.
Wish List
Jen knew the kitchen and dining areas could be re-worked to create a more functional kitchen. She also hoped to use the square footage in the primarybedroom to create something more functional to her needs. There were a few things Jen had on her wish list which were not in the existing house. She hoped for a mudroom and a main floor washer and dryer. She also wanted more entertaining space, somewhere guests could easily move from inside to outside. Last on her wish list was an additional bathroom or powder room.
A New Layout
With her wish list in hand, Jen gave Schloegel a call in hopes they could make her dream a reality. She met with Megan Bringman. Megan Bringman couldn’t wait to help Jen fulfill her dream. She asked Amy Boeshaar to assist in the project as well. The first step was to determine the right layout for Jen’s lifestyle. The Schloegel team presented several options and the option with two additions was determined to be the winner.
The new layout includes two additions to expand the primarybedroom, create a family room and add a mudroom. The new kitchen will feel much larger as the peninsula is gone and a new large island will be in the middle. The island not only provides more function but cozy seating for breakfast or small gatherings. The old dining room space will now be a butler’s pantry and additional storage while the old breakfast area will serve as the dining room.
The primarysuite’s bathroom will be converted to the hall bath. The old hall bath’s space will be a powder bathroom and additional closet space for the spare bedroom. The new primarysuite includes a large bathroom with a double vanity. It also has a closet out of every lady’s dreams
The family room addition will provide the perfect place for entertaining friends. The doors will open out to a beautiful patio complete with a fireplace. And finally, Jen will have the convenience of doing laundry on the main floor in the new mudroom right off the garage.
