  • Ward Parkway Renovation – Week 2

Last updated on September 22, 2023

This is the second post in a series about the Ward Parkway Renovation, just in case you missed it here’s Week 1. Follow along on our blog or visit the Ward Pkwy Reno page where we’ll be sharing all the blog posts and progress photos. In addition to our updates, you’ll be able to see the renovation from the homeowner’s eyes. The homeowner, Jen is sharing her journey on Instagram.

This week we’ll be talking about demo, demo and more demo. To say there was a little demo associated with this project would be a gross understatement.

Trim, Drywall & Ceiling

Sometimes we have misconceptions about how easy demo is thanks to things like HGTV but demolition is a messy and sometimes long process, especially in older homes. The old insulation is scratchy while the drywall is crumbly and there are dust particles everywhere. Kudos to the Schloegel team and for that matter all the craftsman out there for handling demo time and time again.

The Schloegel team started by removing the socket and vent covers followed by the trim around the entire home. After that came the fun part of removing all the drywall and insulation in the home. The team first tackled the wall drywall followed by the ceilings.

Windows, Electrical, Floors & More

The home is getting the ‘works’ treatment. New windows, new electrical, new HVAC and new floors. Out with the old and in with the new.

The new windows are a little larger than the original windows so the team cut holes to accommodate for them before removing the original windows.

The team removed all the old electrical wiring in preparation of the electricians putting in all new. Of course, a few were left to power equipment and lights.

One of the last things demoed and removed was the floors. The flooring throughout the entire house was removed.

After three weeks full of demo work, items are donated, the site is cleaned and the home is ready for its transformation. It’s thrilling to see everything opened up and just to imagine the many exciting changes to come. Next up on the agenda for the Ward Parkway Renovation, working on the two new additions. Stay tuned for just how the Schloegel team adds an addition to an older home to ensure it ties in well with the existing structure.
