In Week 6 we looked at the design elements in the primarysuite including the primarybathroom. This week we’re going to delve into the kitchen design and oh is it good! The homeowner, Jen, has a definite eye for design and it has been so fun to see the design selections she’s made with Megan Bringman and Amy Boeshaar. Take a look at Jen’s @themodernclassichouse Instagram account if you haven’t yet. She has shared awesome progress photos and some of her design choices along the way.
Layout
The kitchen has always been fairly spacious but the previous design underutilized that space. The new layout took a little square footage from the primarybedroom in order to get the kitchen just the right size. The revised kitchen design utilizes every inch of wall space as well as adds a large island with seating.
Oven Wall
It’s the wall of doubles, double ovens, and double storage pantries. And could it get any better once you add in the roll-out storage on both sides of the cooktop and a spice drawer? Oh, yes it can.
Fridge Wall
The fridge wall boasts a paneled refrigerator, freezer and wait for it….a wine fridge. The cabinets to the left of the refrigerators serve as a bar area.
Sink Wall
The sink wall has a great view of the backyard and plenty more storage. The trash and recycling are housed in a roll out cabinet to the left of the sink while the dishwasher is on the right.
Kitchen Design Selections
All those beautiful cabinets will be Shiloh’s Heritage cabinets in soft white. They’re adorned by Alno Royale knobs, Alno Centers Cup Pull and Schaub Menlo Park pulls.
The countertops, as well as the backsplash behind the bar area, will be the ever beautiful and classic Cambria Brittanicca quartz. The backsplash on both the sink wall and behind the cooktop will be Masia 3 x 12 handmade subway tiles. They’re classic and neutral but because they’re handmade each piece is a little different adding life and character.
The white farmhouse sink will be perfectly complemented by a Waterstone faucet in polished nickel. Jen selected to mix metals and finishes throughout the home a trend we’re seeing more and more. It is fun to see the thousands of options and variations and how they end up looking so natural.
It’s tempting to say the stunning brass light fixtures above the island and over the sink may steal the show but more than likely they’ll act as the perfect accompaniment.
The kitchen will be painted Benjamin Moore Cloud Cover while the floors will be a gorgeous oak nutmeg.
Jen has named this home The Modern Classic and the name could not be more appropriate. The kitchen reflects this with its classic white cabinets and tile backsplash. Touches of modern are brought in with fun bronze light fixtures.
