Race For A Fallen Brother

Last updated on January 1, 1970

I guess you’re never too old to brag on your children. Ben, our oldest son, had such a good Ironman race last Sunday, and he was racing for a very worthy cause. I feel like I need to tell everyone.  So here it is:

Ben raced in the Louisville Ironman this past Sunday. It’s a 2.2 mile swim, a 112 mile bike race and a 26.4 mile marathon. There were 2995 racers, approximately 40 pros. Ben finished 6th overall, he was the #1 amateur and #1 in his age group. He had the second best marathon time of all racers, at 3 hours and 2 minutes. He qualified for the world championship Ironman in Kona, Hawaii in October. He went to Louisville with the idea of winning his age group, and he did!

Ben raced using the bib number of 590, the same number worn by John Glaser in the 2008 Louisville Ironman. John is the Shawnee firefighter that died in the line of duty on May 22nd of this year.  John left behind a wife and two young children. Ben dedicated the race to John and his family, with the idea to raise money for John’s children’s education.

Ben has raised several thousand dollars in honor of John and to support his family. If you would like to support the Glaser family, follow this link:  www.benschloegel.com.

Way to go Ben!
