NAHB’s 5 tips to a successful home remodel

The National Association of Home Builders released their 5 tips to a successful home remodel yesterday. It reminds us that Spring is a big time for remodeling, and planning is in full effect. You may even be contemplating a home or room redesign right now.

Table transformation

Family history will be preserved in this kitchen makeover. Sally and Don raised their children around this maple butcher block table.

We have planned a new kitchen island that will utilize this modified and renewed table as the new island counter.

Not only are we restoring a piece of family history, but we're also recycling lumber.

Gorgeous Staircase Transformation

We recently completed a remodel, part of which included updating the main staircase of our clients’ home.

This update included new oak treads and risers, new carpet runner, wrought iron spindles and paint.  The change in this home is so dramatic that it seems difficult to believe that it is actually the same house we originally walked into.

Proof of proper insulation

This photo is of a house Schloegel Design Remodel recently remodeled. We converted the attic space on the left side into a bedroom with a full bathroom. Notice the snow on the roof that is still present. The right side of the roof, which covers finished space as well, is free of snow.

A troubled tub

In this before picture, you can see a really dated jetted tub. This tub was never used because the first time it was turned on the water turned black from the residual that was in the jets—YUCK! The white tile tub deck and backsplash, as well as the polished brass hardware (that has oxidized), makes this tub replacement a must.

There is only one week left in the Design Sherpa “What Inspires You?” contest. Enter, and you could win $10,000, a 10-day trip to Paris while attending  Maison & Objet along with the opportunity to publish your experiences to a vast professional and consumer design audience!

We're excited to see some of the entries.

Restoring a Kitchen Back to it’s Roots

We completed this kitchen and powder bathroom remodel last year in the Brookside area.   The new space features prefinished maple cabinetry with a rich sable stain that makes this space very warm and "Mince Gold" countertops were selected for their unusual veining and eye catching gold flecks.

Doing our part

Employees here at Schloegel all contribute more than just the work they do in the office or out in the field. We really value philanthropy and community involvement, and here's a great example of how we do that. Designer Gayle Jagoda has a few words about some volunteer work she's recently started:

Last Thursday I started my volunteer work at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

Relationship building

(Editor's note: Below is a message submitted by one of our design consultants, Donna Kirsopp.)

We have just completed our 6th remodeling project with our client, and friend, Janet Meisinger.

Janet’s master suite addition was one of the first projects I sold for SDR in 2000. Consecutive projects included a fitness room, lower level library, laundry room “Extraordinaire” privacy panels and columns for an outside deck and now a complete kitchen remodel, powder bath remodel and living room fireplace façade as well as whole house lighting and audio control.
